Do you want to surrender your pet to the WRHS?
If you feel it is best to surrender your pet to the Wild Rose Humane Society, please call (403) 335-8297 to speak with our admissions staff, or click on the link to the right to fill out an online surrender request. In the event that our shelter is full, we will put your pet on a waiting list. The length of wait can vary between a few days and a few weeks. Animals being surrendered to the Wild Rose Humane Society must meet our health and behavior requirements. A surrender fee or donation may be requested at the time of admission to help cover operating costs.
Surrendering an animal is never easy, and we at the Wild Rose Humane Society want to make the transition as easy as possible for both you and your pet. Due to our limited space, before contacting the WRHS with a surrender, we encourage you to explore each of the alternatives.
- If you purchased your pet from a breeder, your first step should be to contact them to take the animal back. A responsible breeder will assist you with any issues or help you in rehoming your pet
- Contact a breed specific rescue group
- Try to re-home your pet independently in a safe, responsible way
- Reach out to friends and family who may be able to re-home your pet or provide temporary accommodation
- If you are surrendering your pet due to behavioural concerns, try contacting a veterinarian, animal behaviourist or trainer
- If you are no longer able to cover your pets medical expenses, contact your veterinarian as there are medical assistance programs available such as ABVMA Tails of Help
- If you are no longer able to cover general expenses, you may also choose to apply for funding through Petcard or start a crowdfunding page
Stray Animals
If you have found a stray animal, please view the information below as it contains a directory for each of the towns we serve. It is important to take proper steps when dealing with strays to help keep our animals in care and our volunteers safe; therefore, we ask that you do not bring strays into the front office if possible. If you have any questions, please contact the WRHS and one of our staff will happily answer them.
